This goes to show that paint is still one of the most popular ways to decorate the interior of your home. If you’re thinking about painting your home, you may be wondering which types of paint finishes you should go for. Read on as we take a look at the different options available to you.

Matte

Matte paint is designed to absorb light rather than reflect it.  Its non-reflective appearance is ideal for hiding any blemishes in your wall which would be shown up by gloss paints. Matte paint also usually requires fewer coats than gloss paints, meaning it goes further for your money. It’s not the best for cleaning, however; you may find you remove some of the paint if you clean it too vigorously.

Eggshell

As you might expect from the name, eggshell paint is similar in appearance to the shell of an egg. In other words, it is like matte paint, but with just a little more luster to it. This helps the paint to be a little easier to clean, and also makes it more resistant to scuffs and marks.

Satin

Eggshell falls somewhere in the middle of matte and satin when it comes to luster. Satin is often considered the most versatile type of paint as it has the benefits of both matte and gloss paints.  It’s relatively easy to clean and resistant to marks, without offering too much glare for an interior wall. If you’re not sure what paint is the best option for you, talk to a reputable painting company such as Majestic Painters for some advice.

Semi-Gloss

Semi-gloss is another step again from satin in terms of luster. It gives your walls a smooth, shiny feel without being too reflective.  It’s also highly moisture resistant, which makes it an ideal choice for rooms with high moisture levels such as kitchens and bathrooms. Semi-gloss white paint can make a room feel brighter than white walls in other finishes. It does tend to show blemishes, but the good news is that it’s nice and easy to clean.

High Gloss

The ultimate in sheen, high gloss paint is very hard and very, very shiny. It’s the most durable paint on our list, but the shine can be too much for some interior rooms. The high durability of high gloss paint makes it an excellent option for painting exteriors.  High gloss paint requires a number of coats, so it won’t go as far as your matte paint will, meaning it’s a more expensive option.
